Resilience
Infrastructure should strengthen a community's long-term ability to adapt, thrive and respond to future challenges.
About Resilient Community Futures
Resilient Community Futures exists to help communities, local authorities and mission-led organisations design, develop and deliver community-owned infrastructure.
About the company
While our work today focuses primarily on community energy, our vision extends beyond energy alone. We believe resilient communities are built through the relationships between people, place, nature and local economies.
Energy, food, water, housing and transport are interconnected systems, and strengthening one often strengthens the others.
Through engineering, research and strategic advice, we help organisations develop practical, locally rooted solutions that increase resilience, reduce environmental impact and create lasting environmental, social and economic value.
Engineering can do more than solve technical problems. It can help communities build resilience, create opportunity and shape a thriving future. We believe engineering is at its best when it leaves communities stronger than it found them.
Our Values
Infrastructure should strengthen a community's long-term ability to adapt, thrive and respond to future challenges.
Projects create greater value when communities participate in, influence and benefit from the systems they depend upon.
Engineering decisions should balance environmental responsibility with long-term care for people, place and future generations.
Ideas only matter when they can be delivered. We combine systems thinking with practical engineering to help turn ambition into reality.
A resilient approach
Understanding communities, organisations and local challenges.
Combining engineering, economics and local knowledge to identify practical opportunities.
Supporting projects from early feasibility through implementation.
Building local capability so more value remains within communities.
Meet the Founder
Founder & Director
Resilient Community Futures was founded by Ross Connell, a mechanical engineer with a background in sustainable infrastructure, community energy and systems thinking.
After working as a Senior Energy Engineer at Ramboll, Ross became increasingly interested in a broader question: not simply how infrastructure is designed, but who owns it, who benefits from it, and how it can strengthen communities.
This led him to complete an MSc in Sustainable Energy Provision and Demand Management at the Centre for Alternative Technology, graduating with Distinction. His research explored how community ownership could support a more resilient, participatory and locally beneficial energy transition.
Today, Resilient Community Futures brings together engineering practice, applied research and a commitment to community ownership to help organisations deliver infrastructure that is technically robust, environmentally responsible and rooted in local value.
